Wow--I tested Last FM w/ one of the most obscure hippie bands I know: The Incredible String Band...and found it! Very comprenshive site.

So far, Last FM hits the spot- a large array of features and artists. I'm enjoying Juno Reactor's Masters of the Universe right now, and don't recognize half of the similar artists listed for this station. This is a good thing!

I've set up an account, but I am unable to download anything to my desk computer so was unable to actually check out the music files. I did look around the site to see how the friends, neighbors etc., worked. Might be interesting but won't work for me at the library. Hurray for Pandora that will!

LastFM: unlike Pandora (which I’ve enjoyed), LastFM has one of my favorite artists, Jim Scott (you’ve gotta test with lesser-known artists) – however when you follow the link to purchase the song it leads you to another guy with the same name, as well as artists who have either the same first or last name. Then when you follow the link for similar artists – the message reads “not enough content to play this station. Too bad. I cannot download the scrobble software – because I’m not an administrator. LastFM did have Blackmore’s Night – a group I discovered via Pandora. And LastFM led me to Мельница a Russian folk musician that is nice. I also like the fact that they’ve got pictures up of the different artists (unlike Pandora). Unlike Pandora you have to keep selecting tracks to play (or maybe I’ve missed the button). Hip Ads!
I think it must be RELATIVELY easy to find artists that are similar to ONE individual group or artist. However, to take several artists from different genres/styles and to be able come up with predictions that aren’t merely sound-alikes for individual groups must be challenging. For example, I like music from a number of different genres: Blues, Folk, Rock, New Age, World, Celtic, Classical, Rockabilly, and some Country. So will these sites be able to make predictions across categories? or just produce soundalikes to given groups. I noticed that my Paul Winter station was playing Celtic-sounding New Age type music – so maybe they’re more advanced than I thought. Are there other music websites like Pandora & LastFM?

I too, am finding artists which I could not find else where. The wealth of information on the web is mind blowing.

So far I like Pandora better. I messed around with LastFM for a while. I found it harder to just play music. With Pandora, you just type in a song and it starts playing. I'm going to try LastFM from home and see if it's any better.

I didn't set up an account but I typed in some artists to search for. One thing I found odd is that after listening to a couple Prince songs I clicked on the "Play Prince's Similar Artists" option and Elvis Costello was the first artist the site played a song by. Some of the artists and songs listed to follow the Elvis Costello song were more similar to Prince. The Elvis Costello song just caught me off guard. I will have to play around with similar artist listings for other artists on the site. One thing I liked right off about the site was that it listed the artists' bios with their music. That is something the other music sites I have used didn't offer.

I cannot get it to work at the library but will try it out at home. These sites are great!

I like Pandora, and this is good too but will need more time to play with it to get it all figured.

I may just start using this over pandora, I was able to find sooo many more artists that weren't available on Pandora! Yeah!

Time will tell if I like this better than Pandora. I've set up my account and will alternate between the 2 to see which I like better. I did find it a little more complicated to start than Pandora, but not too bad.

Okay, I know I just posted, but I love the fact that the artist and song are on the tab. I don't have to click on it to see who is singing!

OK, I may have to start switching off between Last FM and Pandora. The battle for my heart and ears begins. Digital dual to the death!

It feels absolutely naughty to have this much fun at work. I love that it also has soundtracks and you can get just songs, not just an artist or an album. My only gripe is that it runs a little slow finding and loading songs but well worth the wait. I am going to try pandora also since it seems well liked.

I listed some of my faves, including a few obscure ones. Last FM "knew" most, but not all, of the artists. Think I'd use this site.
